After you have painted your underpainting, we start introducing color transparencies over the underpainting. This video explains how and why. It also tells you what supplies you will need to have on hand when you start. I know this is too big a project for beginners, but you can learn a lot just watching someone paint and see how much work is involved in doing a complicated piece of work.
